HARBIN, Feb. 14 (Xinhua) -- Chinese short track speed skater Zang Yize has been elected to the Olympic Council of Asia (OCA) Athletes Committee, the OCA announced on Friday.

Candidates from six national and regional Olympic Committees vied for the vacancy representing winter sports on the OCA Athletes Committee, with the voting period taking place from February 8 to 13.

Zang received 261 of the 843 votes cast by athletes at five polling stations located in hotels during the 9th Asian Winter Games in Harbin.

OCA Athletes Committee Chair Ding Ning said that Zang will bring "another voice from ice and snow sports".

"We have an experienced combination of summer and winter sports athletes, and we are sure our new member will be able to make a big contribution to our work," Ding added.

Zang, 26, a Harbin native, secured a gold in the women's 3,000m relay and a bronze in the women's 1,500m at the Harbin Asian Winter Games. She had previously won gold and silver medals from the 2016 Winter Youth Olympic Games and a silver from the World Championships.
