Bangladesh's dengue cases exceed 10,000 with 42 deaths so far in 2025

DHAKA, July 1 (Xinhua) -- Bangladesh has witnessed a significant spike in dengue cases in June, with over 10,000 cases and 42 deaths registered so far this year.

In June, 5,951 more dengue cases were recorded after 1,773 people were infected with the viral disease in May.

The figures, reported by the Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS) under the Ministry of Health on Monday, showed that the number of dengue cases has surged to 10,296 so far this year.

A total of 429 fresh dengue cases including 87 in capital Dhaka were reported in the 24 hours till 8:00 a.m. local time on Monday, the DGHS data showed.

While 19 deaths were reported in June, there were three deaths in May, seven in April, three in February, and 10 in January, the DGHS said.

A total of 9,087 dengue patients returned home after receiving treatment from various hospitals across the country from Jan. 1 to June 30 this year.

The June-September monsoon period is the season of dengue fever in Bangladesh, a high-risk nation prone to mosquito-borne diseases.
