KABUL, July 8 (Xinhua) -- Mohammad Halim Rafi, the spokesman for the National Statistics and Information Authority (NSIA), has estimated the population of Afghanistan to be as high as 36.4 million, according to a local media outlet, Tolonews.
According to the video message of the official, 51 percent of the country's population is male, and the remaining 49 percent is female, the media outlet added.
The population of Kabul stands at 6.1 million, comprising 3.1 million men and 3.0 million women, according to official figures. ■
