MEXICO CITY, July 8 (Xinhua) -- Mexico will face Colombia in an international friendly in the United States in October, the Mexican football federation said on Tuesday.
The match will be played on October 11 at the AT&T Stadium in Arlington, Texas, coinciding with an official FIFA international window.
It will serve as part of Mexico's preparations for the 2026 FIFA World Cup while offering Colombia a high-level test as it seeks to qualify for the tournament.
Mexico, ranked 17th in the FIFA rankings, will co-host the World Cup with the United States and Canada. The national teams of all three countries are guaranteed a place in the tournament under FIFA rules.
Colombia, ranked 14th, is sixth in South America's 10-team qualifying standings with two matchdays remaining. The top six teams earn direct qualification, while the seventh will contest an intercontinental playoff.
Mexico won its second consecutive CONCACAF Gold Cup on Sunday by beating the United States in the final. ■
