Harbin, Aug. 30 (Xinhua) -- The Qixi Festival, often referred to as China's Valentine's Day, fell on Friday this year. This romantic celebration occurs on the 7th day of the 7th lunar month, stemming from one of China's most beloved love legends.
The tale tells of Niu Lang (embodied by the star Altair), a humble cowherd, and Zhi Nyu (embodied by the star Vega), a celestial weaver. Their deep love was forbidden, and they were separated to opposite sides of the Milky Way by divine decree.
Moved by their unwavering devotion, magpies formed a bridge with their wings on this night each year, allowing the star-crossed lovers their one annual reunion across the celestial river.■
