BEIJING, Oct. 17 (Xinhua) -- The Chinese People's Liberation Army (PLA) will continue to enhance its real combat capabilities in countering separatist activities and foreign interference, a military spokesperson said on Friday.
Zhang Xiaogang, a spokesperson for the Ministry of National Defense, made the remarks when slamming Taiwan leader Lai Ching-te, who recently clamored for increasing Taiwan's defense budget and "winning peace through strength."
In response, Zhang warned the Democratic Progressive Party authorities of Taiwan that soliciting foreign support for independence and resisting reunification by force will not succeed.
"We will continue to enhance our real combat capabilities in countering separatist activities and foreign interference, and take resolute measures to safeguard national sovereignty, territorial integrity and peace and stability across the Strait," he said. ■
