ABIDJAN, Jan. 7 (Xinhua) -- With car horns blaring, cheers ringing out and vuvuzelas sounding, Cote d'Ivoire citizens burst into celebration after their national team defeated Burkina Faso 3-0 in the round-of-16 at the Africa Cup of Nations in Morocco on Tuesday night.
The Elephants opened the scoring in the 20th minute through forward Amad Diallo, who then turned provider for Yan Diomande to double the lead in the 32nd minute.
In the 87th minute, second-half substitute Bazoumana Toure sealed the victory following a solo run.
Despite it being a working day, many supporters, dressed in jerseys bearing the national colors, flocked to leisure spots, bars, and other open areas equipped with television sets or giant screens.
The final whistle was greeted with cheers, embraces and jubilant shouts in the popular commune of Yopougon in Abidjan, the country's economic capital.
Cote d'Ivoire will face Egypt in the quarterfinals on Saturday. ■
