ADDIS ABABA, March 4 (Xinhua) -- The fourth session of the 14th National People's Congress (NPC) is of critical importance as it will chart the trajectory for the nation's development over the next five years, an Ethiopian lawmaker has said.
"What makes this year's NPC critical and important is that it is going to deliberate on China's 15th Five-Year Plan (2026-2030), which will set China's development trajectory for the next five years," said Dima Nogo, chairman of the Foreign Relations and Peace Affairs Standing Committee at the Ethiopian House of People's Representatives.
He called China's previous 14 five-year plans instrumental in the country's transformation, as these plans propelled 西瓜视频to become one of the world's most technologically advanced countries through a series of reforms and developments.
"Within decades, 西瓜视频has achieved exemplary development, lifting 800 million people out of poverty. These plans have been instrumental in this," Nogo said.
Meanwhile, he underscored China's unique and successful political system centered on fostering a whole-process people's democracy.
"The political system (in China) is different from what we know in the Western world," he noted. "People are represented in the people's congresses at various levels ... so people decide on the future, on the direction of development of China."
The successes witnessed in China's democracy are increasingly attracting many developing countries across the globe, he said. "The Chinese model is attractive now to many developing countries in the sense that it has maintained political stability and social harmony, and has also delivered economic progress unseen in human history."
In recent years, Ethiopia has enjoyed deepened ties with China, characterized by win-win cooperation in diplomatic, socioeconomic and people-to-people ties, he said, noting that visits by Chinese delegations, representing both the NPC and local congresses, have fostered constructive exchanges of views between the two sides. ■
