GENEVA, Aug. 21 (Xinhua) -- Pole vault world record holder and two-time Olympic champion Mondo Duplantis' song "Gold" was named the Ultimate Anthem of the inaugural World Athletics Ultimate Championship by World Athletics on Friday.
The original song was written and performed by the Swedish pole vaulter, and the accompanying music video was launched globally.
"I wrote the song around representing something that's a lot bigger than yourself. I think that's what we all do when we're on the track. We represent our family, our team, our coaches, and I love that concept. Music and sports are the two things that bring people together in the best way, and Gold is an expression of that," Duplantis was quoted as saying in a World Athletics press release.
Duplantis will perform the song in Budapest, Hungary, on September 13, when the Ultimate Championship concludes. The Ultimate Championship is a new year-ending event designed to bring together world champions, Olympic champions, Wanda Diamond League winners and the year's best-performing athletes to compete for the ultimate title and prize.
"The Ultimate is purposefully designed to showcase the talents and passions of our sport's biggest stars, on and off the track," said World Athletics President Sebastian Coe. "Mondo is one of our most recognisable and accomplished athletes, and we could not be more excited that he is the one who created the Ultimate Anthem." ■
