JERUSALEM, Aug. 21 (Xinhua) -- A Palestinian man was shot dead after attempting to stab an Israeli soldier in the northern West Bank city of Jenin, the Israel Defense Forces (IDF) said in a statement on Thursday.
The IDF said a Palestinian man armed with a knife attempted to stab an Israeli soldier during an operation in the Jenin area and was shot dead by troops. No Israeli soldiers were injured in the incident.
Palestine's official news agency WAFA reported that the man was identified as Fathi Zedan Khazem.
Citing local sources, the agency reported that Israeli forces raided Khazem's home in downtown Jenin and opened fire on him, critically wounding him.
It said the forces prevented ambulance crews from reaching him, and that he later died of his wounds before they seized his body. ■
