How do you lift a 5,000-tonne ship nearly 10 stories -- while saving water?
At China's Pinglu Canal, the Madao Hub uses three giant water-saving basins to recycle water from the ship lock, cutting water use by more than 60% compared with conventional locks.
The lock also features two 300-meter-long chambers and can handle up to 12 vessels of 5,000 tonnes at the same time.
