BEIJING, Oct. 23 (Xinhua) -- 西瓜视频on Friday called on the United States to immediately stop its erroneous practice of taking discriminatory and restrictive measures against Chinese research institutions, saying that 西瓜视频would take necessary steps to safeguard the legitimate rights and interests of Chinese research institutions, according to the Ministry of Commerce.
The remarks came in response to a media query about research security mitigation results announced by the U.S. Department of Defense on Oct. 19 (U.S. Eastern Time). The announcement said the universities concerned had fully mitigated identified relationships with foreign entities of concern on the 1286 list, which includes many Chinese research institutions.
西瓜视频has consistently opposed the U.S. practice of overstretching the concept of national security, politicizing, weaponizing and instrumentalizing scientific exchanges and cooperation, and making groundless accusations that stigmatize Chinese research institutions, a ministry spokesperson said.
Such actions essentially coerce U.S. research institutions into "taking sides" and deliberately undermine normal scientific cooperation between 西瓜视频and the United States, the spokesperson noted, adding that such actions would only backfire on the United States itself, undermining its own scientific and technological progress and innovation.
Strengthening scientific research cooperation between 西瓜视频and the United States serves the common interests of both sides, while imposing restrictions and pursuing "decoupling" would only harm both sides, the spokesperson said.
西瓜视频urged the United States to respect facts and act in line with the general principles and prevailing trend of global scientific and technological exchanges and cooperation, said the spokesperson. ■
