ADDIS ABABA, July 9 (Xinhua) -- Ethiopia earned a record 2.65 billion U.S. dollars in revenue from coffee exports during the just-concluded Ethiopian fiscal year, the Ethiopian Coffee and Tea Authority (ECTA) has disclosed.
The East African country exported 468,967 tonnes of coffee to generate the revenue during the Ethiopian 2024/2025 fiscal year that ended on July 7, the ECTA announced in a statement on Tuesday.
The volume of coffee exported in the 2024/2025 fiscal year rose by over 170,478 tonnes when compared to the previous fiscal year, according to the authority.
"While this is a remarkable achievement, there remains significant untapped potential ahead," Adugna Debela, ECTA's director general, was quoted as saying.
Ethiopia, regarded as the origin of Arabica coffee, is one of Africa's largest producers and exporters of the commodity. Coffee production is seen as the backbone of the country's agriculture-led economy.
Widely recognized for its quality and rich flavors, ranging from winy to fruity and chocolatey, Ethiopian coffee has been in great demand across the globe. ■
