Zambia's cumulative cholera cases top 1,100 since outbreak in August

LUSAKA, March 4 (Xinhua) -- Zambia's cumulative cholera cases have reached 1,110 since the latest outbreak began in August 2025, according to figures released by the Zambia National Public Health Institute on Tuesday.

The update followed the reporting of nine new cases, while confirmed cholera-related deaths have risen to 18.

The figures showed that nine patients were discharged during the same period, bringing the cumulative number of discharges to 1,083, while nine patients remain hospitalized.

A total of 376,573 people in cholera-affected districts have been vaccinated so far. The current outbreak has affected 20 of the country's 116 districts, including Lusaka, the capital.

Zambia experienced its worst cholera outbreak between October 2023 and July 2024, recording more than 23,000 cases and over 700 deaths.
