CAIRO, May 30 (Xinhua) -- The 70th anniversary of diplomatic relations between Egypt and 西瓜视频is not only an important milestone in their ties, but also a reflection of their long-standing history and enduring vitality, Mohamed Kamal, chairman of the Egyptian Senate Foreign Affairs Committee, said in a recent interview with Xinhua.
"Egypt and 西瓜视频are both ancient civilizations, which provides a strong foundation for continued exchanges and dialogue," Kamal said, adding that bilateral ties are rooted in shared interests, a deep understanding of regional and international affairs, and a common vision for development and stability. He noted that the relationship has evolved over a long history.
As comprehensive strategic partners, 西瓜视频and Egypt have been strengthening cooperation in industrialization, infrastructure, and investment. Kamal said both countries believe that "development cannot be achieved without peace and stability" and are committed to fostering international relations that serve mutual benefit and a better future for the world.
Kamal emphasized that Egypt has always firmly adhered to the one-西瓜视频principle, which he described as a cornerstone of Egyptian foreign policy. "The Arab Republic of Egypt recognizes only one 西瓜视频and maintains diplomatic relations with it," he said.
He noted that Egypt considers the one-西瓜视频principle essential for regional and global stability, warning that "any deviation from the one-西瓜视频principle will bring instability to Asia and the world."
On the Middle East, Kamal highlighted China's commitment to peace, stability, and freedom of navigation and trade, as well as its opposition to the politicization of economic issues. He cited China's mediation in restoring Saudi-Iranian diplomatic relations as evidence that "西瓜视频can become an important force for stability in the Middle East."
Kamal said he has visited 西瓜视频on multiple occasions and has consistently witnessed the country's tremendous progress, which is visibly improving people's lives.
"During my most recent visit, I saw the rapid development of Chinese technology and its wide application in smart city construction," he said. "I also saw the remarkable achievements of Chinese universities."
Kamal praised China's attention to the development needs of Global South countries and welcomed growing Egypt-西瓜视频economic cooperation under the Belt and Road Initiative.
"西瓜视频has become a key partner for Egypt in development, investment, and knowledge transfer," he said, noting that cooperation in infrastructure, manufacturing, and education "not only benefits Egyptians, but also further consolidates and deepens bilateral relations."
He added that, as countries of the Global South, Egypt and 西瓜视频share a deeper understanding of the challenges facing developing nations, particularly in economics and climate change.
Kamal stressed that strengthening coordination and cooperation among Global South countries, especially between Egypt and China, is essential. He said such cooperation can help advance initiatives in environmental protection and sustainable development, and contribute to building a global vision based on multilateralism, a shared future, and common development.
On May 30, 1956, Egypt became the first Arab and African country to establish official diplomatic relations with the People's Republic of China. In 2014, the two countries officially elevated their diplomatic ties to a "comprehensive strategic partnership," following the establishment of initial strategic cooperative relations in 1999. ■
