JAKARTA, July 1 (Xinhua) -- Indonesia posted a surge in trade balance surplus of 4.3 billion U.S. dollars in May 2025, compared to 0.16 billion dollars in the previous month, Statistics Indonesia (BPS) announced on Tuesday.

The figure marks the 61st consecutive trade balance surplus since May 2020, Pudji Ismartini, deputy for distribution and services statistics at BPS, told a press conference virtually.

"The trade balance surplus was mainly driven by non-oil and gas commodities, which contributed 5.83 billion dollars, mostly from mineral fuels, animal or vegetable fats and oils, as well as iron and steel," she said.

Ismartni further said that since the beginning of this year until May, Indonesia's trade balance had recorded a total surplus of 15.38 billion dollars, showing an increase of approximately 2.32 billion dollars compared to the same period in 2024.

"The surplus from January to May this year was mainly supported by a surplus in non-oil and gas commodities amounting to 23.10 billion dollars, while oil and gas commodities still recorded a deficit of 7.72 billion dollars," she said.
