BANGKOK, March 4 (Xinhua) -- Thailand's Ministry of Finance, the Bank of Thailand and the International Monetary Fund (IMF) on Wednesday announced steady progress in their preparations to host the 2026 annual meetings of the IMF and the World Bank Group.

Preparations are advancing well across various areas, including construction, security and branding, a joint statement said.

In her remarks following discussions to take stock of event preparations, IMF Managing Director Kristalina Georgieva highlighted Asia's vital role as a driving force in the global economy.

In a world of high uncertainty, Asia is a driving force of global growth, Georgieva said, adding that she eagerly anticipates welcoming global delegates to Thailand to discuss pragmatic solutions to shared challenges.

Bank of Thailand Governor Vitai Ratanakorn emphasized the necessity for long-term vision, innovation and international cooperation to navigate current global economic challenges.

The major global economic event is scheduled to take place from Oct. 12 to 18 in Bangkok.
