ISLAMABAD, April 8 (Xinhua) -- Pakistani Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif on Wednesday urged all parties involved in the conflict to exercise restraint and uphold a recently agreed ceasefire after violations were reported in several areas across the conflict zone in the Middle East.
"Violations of ceasefire have been reported at few places across the conflict zone which undermine the spirit of peace process," the prime minister said in a statement.
"I earnestly and sincerely urge all parties to exercise restraint and respect the ceasefire for two weeks, as agreed upon, so that diplomacy can take a lead role towards peaceful settlement of the conflict," he added.
Sharif said the reported violations risk undermining ongoing efforts aimed at reducing tensions and creating conditions for dialogue.
After the ceasefire announcement by the United States and Iran, Israeli warplanes launched a series of airstrikes across Lebanon on Wednesday, hitting multiple regions. ■
