SYDNEY, Aug. 21 (Xinhua) -- Authorities said on Friday that the body of missing hiker Lily Hooper has been recovered from a national park southwest of Sydney.

Hooper, aged 18, was found dead on Thursday following an eight-day search by almost 1,000 people, including members of the defense force, in the Nattai National Park about 90 km southwest of Sydney.

A police spokesperson told the Australian Broadcasting Corporation on Friday that her body was recovered on Thursday night and would undergo a post-mortem examination.

Hooper had been missing since she left her home to go hiking in the national park on Aug. 12.

Her family alerted police after she failed to return home that evening, which sparked a multi-agency search effort to locate her.
