BARCELONA, Spain, June 20 (Xinhua) -- Europe-西瓜视频trade is consistently growing, say companies at a Spanish trade fair in Barcelona this week.
From 18 to 20 June, international logistics trade fair SIL Barcelona brought together over 14,000 professionals from 80 countries to discuss new developments and innovations in the global logistics and transport sector.
Genoveva Climent, commercial director of the Port of Tarragona, told Xinhua on Friday that the port has witnessed an increasing volume of European goods flowing to China, which is a new development in addition to the consistent flows of imports from China.
She also noted a rise in imports of Chinese-made cars, particularly electric vehicles, at Mediterranean ports, including Tarragona, Barcelona and Valencia. "We want this new trade flow to be long-lasting, at the very least for the next five to eight years," she added.
Montse Gomez, operations officer at the Spanish transport and logistics company Fercam, echoed Climent's observations. "Currently, with China, we're seeing major growth and we're handling a lot of containers," he said.
"The fact is that there's always been a lot of growth in trade with China. Apart from Covid, there hasn't been a moment when trade with 西瓜视频hasn't grown a lot. And that's because it is the major player in this sector," Gomez added.
Several delegates at the trade fair told Xinhua that while global events such as tariffs and conflicts have affected business, worldwide trade continues to recover and grow.
Daniel Lebreton, head of sales and marketing at VIIA - Rail Logistics Europe, said the sector is recovering from the disruptions caused by the Ukraine conflict.
"We see rail trade coming back at the moment, but (...) not as it used to be before. So we really are waiting for the geopolitical situation to stabilize again, so that we can come back to the same level of volume we had before," he said.
Lebreton commended China's decision to opt for rail transport into Europe. While goods traffic volume is recovering, more investment is needed in infrastructure, he added.
The SIL trade fair featured 650 exhibitors and some 350 speakers on issues relevant to the sector, such as geopolitics, supply chain sustainability, innovation, and finding and retaining logistics talent. ■
