MADRID, June 30 (Xinhua) -- A power failure in the overhead catenary system disrupted high-speed train traffic between Madrid, Toledo, and Andalusia, Spain on Monday evening, leaving multiple trains stranded and causing significant delays.

The disruption occurred between the municipalities of Yeles and La Sagra in the province of Toledo. Spain's railway infrastructure manager Adif reported a loss of electrical tension in the overhead lines around 8:50 p.m. local time (1850 GMT), prompting the suspension of all AVE (Spanish High Speed) and Avant (New Generation High Speed) train services along the affected stretch.

Dozens of long-distance trains, including those connecting Madrid with Seville, Malaga, Granada and Cadiz, were immobilized. Adif deployed electrification teams to restore service and dispatched emergency locomotives to assist trains stranded outside stations.

In coordination with Castilla-La Mancha's emergency services, Adif also arranged for the delivery of food and water to passengers onboard trains affected by the prolonged halt.

Power was restored on the track between La Sagra and Yeles shortly after 10:00 p.m. local time (2000 GMT), enabling the gradual resumption of service. However, delays continued as traffic was managed on a single track while full operations were being restored.
