MOSCOW, Nov. 5 (Xinhua) -- Russia's new car sales fell 22 percent in the first 10 months of 2025 compared with the same period last year, the Russian Ministry of Industry and Trade said Wednesday.
Following a 28 percent drop in the first half of 2025 and a 25 percent decrease in the first eight months, the ministry said in a news release that new car sales have continued to decline.
Passenger car sales fell 20 percent compared to the same period last year, it said, adding that sales of new electric vehicles in Russia plummeted 38 percent to a total of around 10,400 units.
However, the ministry noted that the market share of domestically produced vehicles rose during the same period, climbing 11 percentage points to 55 percent.
In October alone, approximately 183,400 new cars were sold in Russia, a 34 percent increase from September. Domestic car sales reached around 100,700 units, up 9 percent from October 2024, the ministry said.
According to a report from the Russian analytics firm Autostat, the most recognizable car brand in Russia remains domestic manufacturer Lada, with Chinese brands Haval, Geely and Chery ranking among the top five, and seven of the top 10 brands are Chinese. ■
