NEW YORK, Nov. 3 (Xinhua) -- Ford Motor Company sold 175,584 vehicles in the United States in October this year, up 1.6 percent year on year, the company reported on Monday.

The U.S. automaker saw an increase of 3.4 percent in internal combustion vehicle sales in October, while sales of electric vehicles and hybrid vehicles dropped 24.8 percent and 4.0 percent, respectively.

Ford sold a total of 1,834,492 vehicles in the United States during the first 10 months this year, up 6.6 percent year on year. F-Series sales through October totaled 688,510 units, up 11.4 percent.

Ford is not the only automaker that has reported a sales drop in electric vehicles, as Kia, Hyundai Motor and Toyota Motor have also reported sharp year-on-year declines, local media reported.

The plunge in EV sales in October is not surprising. With the 7,500-dollar federal tax credit for new EVs expiring on Sept. 30 this year, many consumers considering an EV would drop the choice, market analysts hold.
